Nuova Didattica Popolare
by Pietro Gaglianò
August 9/11/12, 2014 from 9-10:30pm
Piazza del Torrione and other venues in Guilmi (Province of Chieti, Abruzzo – ITALY)
Curated by GuilmiArtProject (GAP)
Following the experience of the last year, GAP (GuilmiArtProject) announces a new edition of Nuova Didattica Popolare, a cycle of talks about art history held in the public space of Guilmi, a small village in the Southern region of Abruzzo, Italy. Three lessons will involve teacher and audience acting in urban venues, where the public dimension and a kind of home-like intimacy meet. Participants are asked to bring their own chair and share their points of view in a dialogue with the coach/teacher, with the aim of creating a synthesis between art and informal education.
Pietro Gaglianò (SACI’s Installation and Performance Art Instructor) will propose a wide overview of the idea of resistance — of the culture of historical Resistance, as well as the aesthetics of public monuments. All issues will be investigated by the merge of traditional iconography and unconventional experience in collective self-representation.
Nuova Didattica Popolare (that could be translated as “New Didactics for the People”) runs in the general mission of GAP: the art residency is conceived as a dialogue, where the creative action is the medium itself of such a dialogue, and the result is given by the meeting of very different languages and disciplines.
GAP is a project and artist residency running since 2009, and curated by Federico Bacci and Lucia Giardino. The invited artist in 2014 is Juan Pablo Macías (Puebla, Messico, 1974), whose intervention will be presented on August 13th.
Italian artist Ryts Monet (Bari, 1982) has created the graphic project for the t-shirt of the 2014 edition of “Nuova Didattica Popolare”: the educational patterns in the public sphere are interpreted through the filter of sport participation and the ideas of team and soccer competitiveness.
GAP-labs and side events will parallel the main activities. They will be run as collaborative projects between professionals and the local population of Guilmi. “L’amore ai tempi di Guilmi” (“Love in Guilmi’s Time”) is a radio GAP-lab by Ilaria Gadenz,Carola Haupt (Radio Papesse), and Tiziano Bonini, about love as romantic feeling or revolutionary power. A GAP-lab on fashion set design and shooting will be held by Fern Blossom, Eva di Franco Clothing, Andras Calamandrei (photographer), and Federica Berardi.
