GuatePhoto International Festival of Photography aims to educate, promote, document and celebrate contemporary photography through diverse exhibitions, artist talks, portfolios reviews and other dynamic events and positions itself as one of Latin America’s top photography festivals. In its first two editions, GuatePhoto has witnessed a transformation of the Guatemalan and Latin-American photography scene creating a new space for dialogue, an exchange of multicultural ideas, along with being an interface with a wider public for participants. In its third edition, GuatePhoto Festival continues its effort to generate intellectual, cultural, social and economic value for a region that has warmly opened themselves to photography.
Starting November 12th, 2015 the cities of Antigua and Guatemala will be immersed in photography; exhibitions in museum, galleries, gardens, warehouses, streets, bus stations and public spaces will be flooded by the work of internationally acclaimed photographers and the best local talent, dedicated to contemporary photographic creation while gathering the talent of established and emergent artists, critics, cultural agents, institutions and the general public.
OPEN CALL
GuatePhoto invites photographers from all around the world to submit their work to the Open Call. Fifteen portfolios and 30 photobooks will be selected as part of two of the main exhibitions of the Festival which will take place at the Museum of Modern Art Carlos Merida and the Grand Gallery of the Hipodromo del Sur.
CATEGORIES AND PRIZES
There is no specific theme for the Open Call or festival. We accept proposals from all individual photographers or collectives of all nationalities.
There are 2 categories to participate in, based on what we consider to be the most relevant in contemporary image production:

HOW TO PARTICIPATE
Those interested in participating must:
- Fill out the application form with all the data required
- Choose a category
Upload a portfolio with a series of 10 to 15 images or submit a photobook through the festival’s official website http://www.guatephoto.org under the section labeled SUBMIT.
Each submission must be accompanied by a brief text describing the photographic project. (The images must be in JPG format, 72 dpi, Adobe RGB or sRGB color profile and weight less than 1 MB). Please provide detailed direction to our team if any additional installations are required to showcase your work. Videos should be submitted via a URL link.
3. Pay a fee of
- USD $25 to submit a portfolio
- USD $25 to submit a photobook (a hard copy must be sent to our office in Guatemala City, see website for shipping address)
If you have an “early bird” code from our crowdfunding campaign please enter it on the labeled box during your application.
There is no limit to the number of entries per participant. Your entry fee helps finance the production and exhibitions at the festival. Once you have submitted your work you will receive an email confirmation. Once the payment is run, there is no submission fee refund. Photobooks that are not selected will be shipped back at the artists’ expense (payment via Paypal). Those that are kept will become part of La Fototeca library and will be used for educational purposes only.

FINALISTS
Of all the entries received at the Open Call, 15 artists and 30 photobooks will be selected from each category to exhibit. The work selected will showcase in two of the main exhibitions during GuatePhoto 2015, from November 12th to the 30th.
GuatePhoto will cover printing and exhibition expenses for all 15 finalists.
The selected series and photobooks will be announced on September 18, 2015 through this website. If you are selected, you will be notified directly via e-mail with any additional instructions.
