SACI instructor Dejan Antanackovic presented his project Another Gaze last week at a conference of the Balkan Museum Network in Sarajevo. The conference goal was to increase the visitor accessibility of museums in Bosnia and Herzegovina.
The project Disabled People in Museums will be implemented in Bosnia and Herzegovina aiming to increase the accessibility of museums for disabled people and to enable their participation in the museum activities. The project will strengthen the connections between museums and associations of disabled people and seeks long-term collaboration. The project will engage numerous museums, heritage practitioners, representatives of non-governmental sector, artists and disabled people. Five practical workshops are being held throughout of Bosnia and Herzegovina (in the towns of Banja Luka, Mostar, Sarajevo, Tuzla and Zenica) through 2015.
The first workshop took place in Mostar on October 15-17 at The Public Institution Museum of Herzegovina. During this three-day workshop, participants learned more about the social model of disability and the ways in which museums can increase the accessibility of their premises. Positive examples of museum projects that were implemented through the Balkan Museum Network were presented and an introduction to the “Disability Toolkit” was made. The practical part of the workshop, enabled participants to learn about the mechanism and tools of production of the tactile images as well as their potential and possible use in the museums.
