Segantini

PALAZZO REALE, Milan

September 18, 2014 – January 18, 2015

Giovanni Segantini (1858-1899), known for his large pastoral landscapes of the Alps, was one of the greatest European painters of the late nineteenth century. His work, a metaphor of the existential border between the heritage and traditions of the great plains and the most secret and least known of the Alpine region, can be seen in this exhibition that brings together for the first time in Milan over 120 works from major museums and collections in Europe and the United States.

This major retrospective of the artist rediscovers the path starting from his beginning in Milan revealing a deep connection with the city, a true home of the spirit and focus of his artistic career, even after the adventurous pilgrimage by the hills of Brianza to the Engadine Mountains, undisputed protagonists of the pictorial work of Segantini
